Daily Attendance Register

Each child's arrival and departure time, who dropped off and who collected, staff present, and the running total in the setting. It is usually the first document an inspector asks to see, and its value depends entirely on being signed at the time rather than filled in at the end of the day from memory. In an emergency it is also the only thing that answers the question that matters most: who is in the building right now.

Frequently asked

Does it tell me my required ratios?

No. Adult-to-child ratios are set by regulation, differ by jurisdiction and by children's ages, and change. The register records who is present; the requirement is yours to know and to apply.

How long do I keep it?

Retention periods differ by jurisdiction. Your own requirements govern.
